KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Shortly after midnight Friday a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer happened upon a one-car crash in the 3900-block of South Westnedge.  It seems the vehicle drove off the road, hitting a utility pole, causing significant damage to both the pole and the vehicle.

Neither the driver nor the passenger were injured, but the 43-year-old Kalamazoo man behind the wheel was arrested for operating while intoxicated and lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail.  That might have been the end of it, but the crash took out several power lines and the road was closed for five hours while utility crews worked to restore power to area residents.
