KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Newly reelected Kalamazoo County Board Chair Dave Maturen has taken a 16-ounce tin can, wrapped it in a County logo, and placed it atop his desk for all to see at every board meeting.
The tin can will serve as a reminder to Maturen and others that elected officials are supposed to make progress for the community. The tin can statement is in reaction to the U.S. Congress who recently voted to put off the debate on budget cuts for two months.
The new 11-member Kalamazoo County Commission met for the first time Wednesday night to get organized for the upcoming year.
Vice Chair David Buskirk was also reelected to serve another year on the County Board. Buskirk says State and Federal officials could also learn how democrats and republicans can work together by observing the Kalamazoo County Board. Buskirk was making reference to Maturen's affiliation as republican and Buskirk as a democrat.
