KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A special prosecutor appointed to handle the case of a Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Deputy arrested for alleged drunken driving will allow the deputy to plead to a lesser charge.
St. Joseph Prosecutor John McDonough says Deputy April Barfoot has been very cooperative and has no previous record. Portage Public Safety officers found her sitting in her car parked in a bank parking lot, early on the morning of November 15th. McDonough says it’s the same deal he would cut with any first time offender.
Deputy Barfoot has already served a seven day suspension and was reassigned from road patrol to jail duty. She will be subject to periodic alcohol screening and was ordered to get counseling. She will plead guilty to driving while impaired.
