PORTAGE (WKZO) -- Friends and neighbors say Daniel Franklin Richards and his ex-wife have been battling since their break up last summer.

 it all came to a peak New Years Eve when Portage Public Safety says Richards kicked in the door to her apartment at Timberwood Crossing, trashed the place and then set a mattress on fire, just after the New Year began.

It was quickly extinguished and the damage restricted to that room.

Richards has now been ordered held on $150,000 bond and charged with felony arson and home invasion and a misdemeanor assault count.

He had apparently been threatening her for months over their break-up.
