KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A Kalamazoo man suffered second and third degree burns to his body trying to escape his burning home in the 1000 block of Osborne St. in the Vine Neighborhood Monday evening. Public Safety got the call just before 10PM.

The 41-year-old occupant was apparently asleep when the place caught fire, delaying his escape. He was taken to Bronson Hospital where he was admitted to the burn unit for emergency treatment. He is listed in stable condition.

Fire crews were able to quickly knock down the flames, but stayed around for a hour making sure it was completely doused. The cause has not yet been determined and is being investigated.
