PAW PAW (WKZO) -- Van Buren County Deputies are withholding the name of a 56-year-old Paw Paw man until he is formally charged after a wild high speed chase.
It began at the Speedway gas station on Kalamazoo St. in Paw Paw, when the staff there recognized the driver as someone who had driven off without paying earlier this week.
A deputy tried to stop the blue Buick Riviera as it left the station, but instead the driver took off, heading down CR 657, to 58th where it went off the road and crashed into a garage.
The driver tried to flee on foot, but was taken into custody after a brief struggle with deputies.
They believe the driver was using some kind of controlled substance. Tests will be conducted, charges filed and 2013 will get off to a very bad start for one Paw Paw man.
