Lakeland, FL (WKZO) – Allowing a three run homer in the top of the first wasn’t exactly the start Rick Porcello was hoping for as he pursues the fifth and final spot in the Tigers’ rotation. In two innings of work, Porcello gave up four hits and three earned runs, all on the long ball hit by Juan Francisco, while striking out two and hitting a batter as the Atlanta Braves led from start to finish, defeating the Tigers 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
Prince Fielder jacked his second home run of the spring over the right field wall at Joker Marchant Stadium, trimming the lead to 3-2 after one.
Atlanta added a run in both the fourth and sixth innings.
Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez each recorded singles for Detroit, and Don Kelly homed in the sixth, a solo shot, for the Tigers final run. Tyler Collins has a five game hitting streak this spring after lining a single to center in the fourth. In five games Collins is hitting .545 (6 for 11).
The Tigers have now lost back to back games in Grapefruit league action.
Tigers take on the Tampa Bay Rays at 1:05 on Thursday.
