It was something of a surprise, Antonio Livingston took to the stand in Kalamazoo Circuit Court to offer his own defense of his actions the night that Kalamazoo Antiques dealer Robert Medema died a brutal and tortuous death. He is testifying against the advice of his own lawyer.
He has portrayed himself as someone who was duped into going along on what he thought would be an errand to pick up used furniture for a lawn sale, and said he was forced to break into Medema’s home because he was afraid of John Aguilar.
He testified he had been outside and walked in on Aguilar hitting Medema with a baseball bat.
He will take more defense questions and then face questioning from the prosecution. They have already established that Livingston has told many different versions of what happened that night and they may attempt to portray this one as just another lie.
John Aguilar goes on trial on April 9th.
