KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Democratic State Representative Sean McCann of Kalamazoo has introduced legislation in the Michigan House aimed at closing more than twelve-million dollars in tax loopholes for major oil companies.
McCann says ensuring that revenue would flow into the state's coffers could help offset the cost of repairing Michigan's roads, rather than asking taxpayers for more funding. The measure would seek to put an end to the 1.5-percent "electronic transfer credit" from the state.
McCann adds that while the twelve-million dollars might help, it still doesn't add up to the 1.2-billion dollar figure proposed by Governor Rick Snyder in this year's State of the State Address, but it could be a step in the right direction.
