KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department responded to a traffic crash in the 4000-block of West D Avenue just before 6 a.m. Tuesday.

On arrival, deputies found that 23-year-old David Meinema of Kalamazoo headed westbound on D Avenue lost control of his vehicle on the icy roadway, crossing the centerline and striking a vehicle in the oncoming lane driven by 60-year-old Daniel Dennany of Kalamazoo.

Meinema was taken to Bronson Hospital where he was last listed in critical condition.  Dennany was not injured in the crash.

Speed and hazardous weather conditions are believed to have been the only factors in the crash.
