PAW PAW TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- A woman who was allegedly very drunk refused to pull over for deputies in Van Buren County because she knew she was going to jail and she didn’t want her dog to end up in the pound.
She was spotted driving erratically down Red Arrow Highway at about noon on Saturday. She led deputies on a 45 M.P.H. low speed chase down the Highway for about two miles before she eventually had to slow for congested traffic in the 41-thousand block and they got her to stop.
When they did, Deputies say they couldn’t at first get her to unlock the car door, and when she did unlock the door, she refused to get out of the 1999 Mercury Cougar.
The 39-year-old from Paw Paw was driving on a suspended license due to a previous 'super-drunk' charge and she told deputies that she just wanted to get her dog home before she was taken to jail. Her name won't be released until she is formally arraigned.
She registered a .26 on a breathalyzer test, over three times the legal limit. The dog was taken to Animal Control to be picked up by relatives, or by the defendant if she bonds out.
She was arrested for driving as a 'super-drunk', attempted fleeing and eluding and driving on a suspended license.
