BARRY COUNTY (WKZO) -- More information has surfaced about the man who died in a police-related shooting over the weekend in Barry County. Michigan State Police investigating the fatal shooting of a suspect by a deputy from the Barry County Sheriff's Department still aren’t saying what he did to provoke the deputy to shoot him.
The suspect, 41-year-old businessman and auto mechanic Ralph Elliott, was on probation because he reportedly threatened to kill his wife while drunk last year. As a condition of probation, he was banned from possessing a gun, but he allegedly had one Saturday night and had reportedly fired it twice before deputies arrived.
The deputy remains on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
