KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Western MIchigan wasted little time getting on the board as they fought with Miami for first place in the CCHA standings.  Jordan Osterle lit the lamp at 3:31 for his third goal of the year giving the Broncos an early 1-0 lead.  Miami outshot WMU 11-6 but wasn't able to beat goaltender Frank Slubowski as the Broncos took the one goal lead into the intermission.

Both teams had several good chances in the second period but both goaltenders made great saves to keep the game 1-0.  Mike Leone even had a penalty shot opportunity but was denied.  The Broncos did outshoot the RedHawks 9-8, as they were much more active in the offensive zone.

Early in the third period at just :46 Chase Balisy was able to bank a shot off of the Miami goaltender to extend the Bronco lead to 2-0 on the powerplay goal.  That was all the Broncos needed as Frank Slubowski stopped all 32 shots he faced on the night to complete his shutout.

The teams will faceoff again tomorrow at 7:05.
