COLDWATER (WKZO) -- A 19-year-old who escaped from incarceration in Branch County is back in custody after he was tackled by Coldwater Police about a half-mile from a former nursing home that was converted for jail use.
Police say Cody Barber shimmied through a tiny bathroom window at about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday and was only free for about ten minutes before he was spotted walking along State Street by two Coldwater Police officers. They had to chase him down on foot and after a brief struggle, he was cuffed and returned to a more secure facility.
Barber was being held awaiting extradition to Florida for violating parole on an aggravated assault charge. He now faces two additional felonies for escape and resisting arrest.
