LANSING (WKZO) -- The latest report from the Department of Environmental Quality shows that Michigan landfills saw less trash in 2012 compared to 2011.
The DEQ's 2012 Annual Solid Waste Receipt Report shows a 3.1-percent overall decrease in solid waste disposal in Michigan landfills. About 35-million cubic yards of waste was dumped in Michigan landfills in 2012, about one-million cubic-yards less than in 2011.
Canada continues to be the largest source of imported waste, contributing just over 15-percent of all the trash disposed of in state landfills.
