LANSING (WKZO) -- It could be Saturday before Consumers Energy gets all customers in Michigan restored. Consumers spokesperson Brian Wheeler says that it'll be hard to get to all of the areas that lost power back online in short order, and so there will be many customers in Michigan who have no power for Christmas.
In fact, it's the day after Christmas that's the most common prediction from Consumers Energy regarding restoration dates. The company is advising people to find alternate accomodations in the meantime. For those who choose to stay in their own powerless homes throughout the outage, officials say to never run a generator indoors.
Around 300 hundred thousand electric customers lost power in Michigan due to the weekend's ice storms. Consumers Energy is being helped in its restoration efforts by crews from out of state, and even from other companies, thanks to mutual assistance agreements.
