Governor Snyder signs two student safety bills

Governor Rick Snyder signs Epi-pen bill in Lansing December 17, 2013
Governor Rick Snyder signs Epi-pen bill in Lansing December 17, 2013

LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Governor Snyder has signed two bills into law to improve student safety. One of them will require that schools have two epipens available for the treatment of anaphylactic shock brought on by food and other allergies.  Each school will also have to have two people trained to use the epinephrine injectors.

The second bill will set up the ok-2-say hotline which will give students a number to call if they have information that a student may be planning an act of violence at school.  it might include anything from punching out a classmate to someone planning a Columbine style assault. It comes just days after the first anniversary of Sandy Hook, and a new incident involving a student and a shotgun in Littleton, Colorado.
