PORTAGE (WKZO) -- Leaders at Portage Schools have been told that the district will receive an additional 457 thousand dollars in state funding for the 2013-2014 budget. That's because the district was able to meet all of the state's requirements for best practices in the past year. Among other things, school districts in Michigan had to contract out more services, meet certain insurance requirements, and publish an updated curriculum in order to qualify for more money. The state legislature last year set aside enough funding to give districts that meet its best practices requirements more per student dollars this year. MLive reports that Portage Schools already has the extra money factored into its budget.
