EAST LANSING (WKZO) -- Police in East Lansing are saying they didn’t try to arrest the students who tore up the shrubs or built the bonfires during what are now being called the Rose Bowl Riots, near the MSU campus.
East Lansing police arrested 15 people at random. Capt. Capt. Jeff Murphy says they did that instead of use tear gas to encourage the crowds to disperse.
A film student who was arrested tells TV-6 in Lansing that he was sober and just there to document the event, and now faces a misdemeanor and possible expulsion from college. He never recovered his camera, which was knocked from his hand when he was arrested.
Seven have now been arraigned for disturbing the peace and being within 300 feet of an open fire.
