PAW PAW (WKZO) -- Ashley Baker is being tried this week in Paw Paw for four counts of driving intoxicated causing death, a 15 year felony. They claim a crash she caused killed four women who were coming from church, including a pastor’s wife last February.
Officers testified yesterday that her van slid on ice through a stop sign at CR 687 and 66th Street in Van Buren county, forcing a pick-up truck to veer across the centerline.
It then sheared off the top of the Oldsmobile that contained the four women, killing them instantly.
The prosecution contends that because Baker had THC in her blood, her judgment was impaired and that is why she could not stop in a proper distance.
The Defense says the marijuana did not impair her driving skills. It was the icy road surface that caused the collision.
Testimony continues today.
