Eighteen-year-old Kalamazoo man dies in train-pedestrian crash

OSHTEMO (WKZO) -- A young Kalamazoo man has died after a train-pedestrian crash in Oshtemo.

Kalamazoo County Sheriff's deputies say 18-year-old Kendall Phillips was walking down railroad tracks between Drake Road and 11th Street around 3:20 p.m. last Wednesday.  A westbound Amtrak train approached, and personnell on board tried to alert him several times by blasting their horn, but they were unable to stop the train before striking the pedestrian.

Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene.  A press release from the Sheriff's Department does not provide any clear reason as to why Phillips may have been unable to hear the train's horn.  The crash remains under investigation.
