Detroit, MI (WKZO) – After an hour and 21 minute rain delay the Tigers and A’s game was called in the sixth inning with the A’s in the lead 6-3.

Justin Verlander lasted just five innings as he took the loss for Detroit, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three.

After falling behind 2-0 before they even had a chance to hit, the Tigers responded right back, regaining the lead with three runs of their own, highlighted a two run bases loaded single from Prince Fielder.

But the Tigers lead didn’t last long. Oakland tied the game back up at three in the third and then took the lead with a two run homer from Brandon Moss in the fifth inning.

Then in the next inning added another run on a solo blast from Seth Smith off of Bruce Rondon, increasing their lead to 6-3.  Before the rain came Rondon loaded the bases but was bailed out because of the rain.

After being activated from the 7-day concussion DL, Alex Avila was back in the lineup and batted eighth for the Tigers and went 0 for 2.

Doug Fister (11-6, 3.54 ERA) takes the mound for Detroit on Wednesday in the third game of the four game series. Fister has not lost at Comerica Park since June 21st and has a 3.11 ERA at home. The A’s will counter with Dan Straily (6-7, 4.56). Straily has never faced the Tigers before and has struggled in his last two starts allowing nine earned runs over nine innings of work. Coverage beings on 590 WKZO at 6:40 and first pitch is scheduled for 7:08.
