LANSING, MI (WTVB) - The expansion of the Medicaid program in Michigan could come up for a vote today or tomorrow in the state Senate. The hard part hasn’t been to get a majority in the State Senate to back Medicaid Expansion, the hard part has been getting a majority of Republicans to back it. The bill’s author, Roger Kahn has been arguing all summer that the proposal before them isn’t Obamacare, it’s a conservative rewrite that they call Healthy Michigan.
The Tea-Party isn’t buying it, and has threatened to challenge any Republican who votes for the measure in next year’s primary. But failure to pass it could hand the Democrats a club they can use to beat Republicans with during next year’s election cycle.
