ALMENA (WKZO) -- A traffic stop in Almena Township ended with an arrest late Monday.
Van Buren County Sheriff's deputies pulled over a 17-year-old male from Lawrence in the 23000-block of M-43 around 10:15 p.m. Monday after witnessing the vehicle driving onto the shoulder of the road and weaving around in its lane. On contact, deputies smelled marijuana coming from the car as the driver and some of his passengers had been smoking marijuana just prior to the stop.
A search turned up marijuana and a pipe, as well as spiked brass knuckles in the driver's shoe. The driver was arrested for operating under the influence of the drug, possessing marijuana, and driving on a suspended license before being lodged at the Van Buren County jail.
