SOUTHERN KENT COUNTY (WKZO) -- A collision on U.S. 131 between a van filled with a family from Kalamazoo and a Semi, left two adults in critical condition.
It was the second collision along that stretch of the highway north of Dorr. Kent County Deputies say that it appears the semi-slowed because of the first accident and the van slammed into the back of its trailer.
They also say that heavy rains just prior to the crash may have also contributed to the wreck. Its being investigated.
A man and woman in the front seats were critically injured after they were pried out of the wreckage. She was airlifted to Spectrum Butterworth. He was transported by ambulance. .
There were also six children on board the van. Authorities say they should all survive the crash because they were properly restrained in their seats. They were taken to DeVos Children's hospital. Three of them required treatment for serious injuries. The other three were not injured.
The wrecks tied up northbound traffic on U.S.131 near the Kent-Allegan County line for two hours.
