Iglesias makes Tigers debut with game winning RBI, Fister sensational as Tigers beat White Sox 2-1

Detroit, MI (WKZO) – Jose Iglesias’ first game as a Tiger will be one he won’t forget. Iglesias drove home the game winning run as the Tigers have extended their winning streak to a season high six games with Friday night’s 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

Iglesias, acquired from the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday in a three-team trade, made the start at third base for Miguel Cabrera, as he continues to rest his injured abdomen muscle, and hit seventh in the Tigers lineup in his debut with Detroit. Most importantly he drove in Prince Fielder from third on a single for the Tigers’ first run to break a 0-0 tie in the fourth inning. Austin Jackson’s solo home run in the fifth accounted for the Tigers 2nd run.

Doug Fister made the start for Detroit and needed just 88 pitches to get through eight innings to pick up his 10th win of the year. Fister allowed just the one run on seven hits while striking out two and issuing no base on balls.

Joaquin Benoit tossed a scoreless ninth for his 11th save in 11 chances.

White Sox starter Hector Santiago (3-7) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings while striking out seven and walking one.

The Tigers have now won 10 of their last 11 games. Tigers and White Sox play the middle game of a three game series on Saturday. Max Scherzer (15-1, 3.01 ERA) takes on John Danks (2-8, 4.57). Coverage beings on 590 WKZO at 6:40.
