KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Coming up next Tuesday, there will be a kids bicycle safety camp at Loy Norrix High School in Kalamazoo. Deb Carpenter, with Safe Kids Kalamazoo at the Children's Hospital at Bronson Healthcare, says that from nine-30 to 12-30, they'll be teaching kids how to use their bikes responsibly, and going over state bicycle laws.
Carpenter tells us that many children around Kalamazoo don't know whow to safely ride their bikes, leading to accidents. She also notes that helmet use can greatly reduce serious injuries in a bicycle crash.
That's why they'll give away 200 bike helmets to the first kids who show up without one. The event is free.
