KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- They are the buildings and homes that remind us of what Kalamazoo once was and each year, Kalamazoo’s Historic Preservation Commission pick out the gems, the best restorations of the year. This year has some notable ones.
Restoration of the four buildings that make up the Metropolitan Center downtown won for the best exterior restoration.'
The Rickman House won for best exterior restoration and interior preservation.
And Bell’s Brewery will be awarded this year for best adaptive use and additions for preserving 113 year old warehouse and retail spaces and turning them into the Brewery and Eccentric Café, while retaining the feel of the original structures.
Three homes are also winning awards this year. An awards ceremony is planned for Wednesday evening at City Hall at 5:30.
