COLON TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- A one-car crash early Sunday morning in Colon Township that sent 5 young adults to the hospital remains under investigation.
At least one of the victims was hospitalized with critical head injuries after two were airlifted from the scene of the crash along Wattles Road near the Branch County Line in St. Joseph County.
Deputies say it appears the car may have been going too fast to navigate a curve, went off the road and struck a tree.
At least one of the occupants, 18-year-old Samantha Carr was admitted in critical condition with a severe head injury, but has since been upgraded to serious conditon at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo .
Deputies believe that alcohol and speed were involved.Also on board 17-year-old Jadalyn Reichart, a pair of 18-year-olds; Tanner Cook and Taylor Farmer and 22-year-old Jesse Bowen.
NORTON SHORES (WKZO) -- A missing person case has now turned into a possible abduction.25-year-old Gas station clerk Jessica Heeringa vanished during her late shift Friday night at the Mobil Exxon Station on Sternberg Road in Norton Shores. Her mother, Shelby Heeringa says the 25-year old blonde left her car keys, her car and her purse behind, and the cash register was also untouched.Police say they are looking for a heavy white male who may have been parked outside observing the station that night. They believe he was driving a grey Chrysler mini-van. He is described as tall man in his 30’s or 40’s with light brown wavy hair parted in the middle, and he was wearing a bright orange or red sweat shirt.
HOWELL (WKZO) -- Congressman Mike Rogers may have been “Swatted” over the weekend. Police, fire and EMT’s turned out in large numbers at his Livingston County home Saturday night after someone pretending to be the Congressman reportedly dialed in a phony 9-1-1 call for help, according to WOOD-TV.The Congressman thanked the emergency responders for their quick response, saying it was all a prank.He wouldn’t be the first prominent conservative to be targeted for a “swatting”, although there was no actual SWAT Team on scene Saturday night. Rogers says it’s a reminder of the real threats that police and fire crews face every day.
UNDATED (WKZO) -- The Big Ten presidents and chancellors have unanimously voted to approve the conference's new divisional realignment. Last year's divisions, the Leaders and Legends are out. The newly named East division will include all the schools in the eastern time zone, including the league’s two new members Maryland and Rutgers along with Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State. The West will be comprised of Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin, mostly schools in the Central Time zone.There will be 9, instead of 8 conference football games beginning in 2016.
