MATTAWAN (WKZO) -- Saturday is the DEA's National Drug Take Back Day, when people are encouraged to take their old, unused prescription medications to various drop off sites so they can be properly disposed.
Doctor Denice Logan, with Blue Cross Blue Shield, says millions of people have old bottles of pills that could be dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands. It's not really considered safe to just dump them down the drain, and throwing them away is discouraged, as well. Instead, everyone's advised to take those pills to a drop off site so law enforcment can safely get rid of them.
The local drug drop off site is in Mattawan, at Medicine Tree Pharmacy, on Village Center Circle. For a search engine of all the drop off locations across the country, go to www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov .
