KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- May is Stroke Awareness Month, and Doctor Jeff Miller, with Bronson Neuroscience Center, says that plenty of stroke patients can recover well with the right treatment and therapy. Of course, how much damage a stroke does all depends on how quickly it's treated.
Doctor Miller says you've got to know the symptoms, which include suddenly lose of movement in an arm or leg, confusion, or slurred speech. The problem, he adds, is that because of the confusion, many stroke victims don't realize that's what's happening. So, it's important for everyone to be able to spot someone having a stroke. For example, Miller told us about a recent patient who suffered a stroke while playing basketball with friends. He sat on the sidelines having a stroke, and no one even realized it.
As Doctor Miller says, the more time wasted, the more brain lost. Get someone experiencing stroke syptoms some help immediately.
