THREE RIVERS (WKZO) -- A wild and dangerous chase in St. Joseph County has ended with three men in jail and a young infant back with his mother.

Three Rivers police say men suspected in a number of thefts were spotted leaving the local Walmart and pulled over after they left the parking lot. When the officer got out, he ordered the driver to turn off his engine. Instead the driver bolted and in the high speed chase that followed, the suspects crashed into a power pole on Constantine St.

The three men, identified as Antonio and Charles Hearn and William Powell fled on foot, the driver dropping stolen items and bleeding from an injured leg, which made it easy for a K-9 to him track down.

Two others were spotted by neighbors and reported and then arrested. One of them was carrying a 6 month old baby, who had been in the car at the time of the crash.

The baby received treatment and was returned to its mother.

The three men face a variety of charges including driving drunk, child endangerment, fleeing and eluding, larceny, resisting arrest and child abuse.
