Kalamazoo Public Safety seeks wanted man who struck detective while fleeing

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo Public Safety is seeking a man that fled from police Wednesday.

KVET officers with the Community Outreach Problem Solving Division were following up on an unrelated investigation at the Red Roof Inn in the 3700-block of East Cork when three individuals smelling strongly of marijuana came through the lobby.  One of the officers in plain clothes recognized a 22-year-old man wanted on an outstanding warrant.

When the officers showed their police identification, the wanted man fled, jumping into a vehicle and peeling out of the parking lot, striking an officer in the process.  The officer was not seriously hurt and did not require medical attention.

The suspect continued to drive recklessly down Cork, fleeing from Kalamazoo Public Safety cruisers, eventually eluding police.  The suspect's vehicle was found abandoned in the 700-block of Keenway Circle and a trail followed by a K-9 unit went cold.

The suspect is being sought on charges of Felonious Assault, Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting and Obstructing, and Reckless Driving.  Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact police or Silent Observer.
