Kalamazoo groups planning to protest over Allied Paper Dump proposal

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A group opposed to the EPA’s plans to leave over a million yards of contaminated soil at the Allied Paper Dump is planning demonstrations and protests, contacting legislators and initiating a full court press to get the Agency to change its mind. They met again last evening.

City Commissioner Dave Anderson says the reason is simple, what the EPA is proposing makes no sense for the long term health of the community, to let a contaminated dump remain near the city’s main water well field.

The group says every person in Kalamazoo County who relies on city water has a dog in this fight. They are trying to mobilize the community to join in the protest and convince the EPA that they need to remove the contamination, not just cap it and walk away.
