LANSING (WKZO) -- 2013 is the 50th anniversary of the federal Equal Pay Act...and in 1971, Michigan passed its own equal pay amendment to the state's minimum wage act.
Nevertheless, federal data says women still make 23 percent less than men working the same job. Mary Pollack, Director of Michigan NOW, says the state should act to close the gap. She supporting bills in the state legislature that aim to fix the problem.
On Tuesday, activists appeared at the State Capitol to recognize Equal Pay Day, and to watch as those bills to strengthen protection for equal pay in Michigan were introduced in the legislature.
