LANSING (WKZO) -- April is Donate Life Month, a time for the state to promote its organ donation program. Secretary of State Ruth Johnson says that since steps were taken in recent years to make it easier for people to sign up to be donors, nearly one million more Michiganders have done so.
She says Michigan used to be towards the bottom when it came to states with organ donor registries, but that's been steadily improving.
To sign up to be an organ donor in Michigan, you can just go to a Secretary of State office, or log on to www.michigan.gov/sos. Remember -- just checking the box on the back of your license isn't enough; you've got to get a license with a red heart stamped on it.
