KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Some local matters will be decided in elections on May seventh. Among other things, Kalamazoo County voters are being asked to renew a millage for the Kalamazoo County Transportation Authority.
Portage Mayor Pro Tem Claudette Reid says that it was last approved in 2009, is going to stay at the same rate, and pays for bus services all over the county. She urges people to vote in support of renewing the millage, saying that public transit is necessary for many residents to make it to work, school, medical appointments, or shopping trips.
Reid also reminded voters that now is the time to apply for absentee ballots. The point four mills that property owners are assessed for this millage raises about three million dollars a year.
