UNDATED (WKZO) -- Craft Beer production may be growing in West Michigan, but long before it became popular to brew your own beer, west Michigan was wine country, and that business is also seeing substantial growth.
It’s increased by 65% in the last 7 years according to the Michigan Grape and Wine Industry Council.April is Wine month in Michigan and St.Julian’s plans to release some of their latest vintages this coming weekend at their Paw Paw facility.
They say despite the devastation in the fields for most fruit crops last year, wine grapes did alright.
The Wine Council says thanks to the local food movement, there is room for more growth. They say about 7% of the wine consumed in Michigan is Michigan wine. That’s up from just 3% in 2005.
