KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The students at WMU have agreed to pay a little extra to keep the Western Herald and the student radio station operating. The announcement that it had passed with 63% of the voters saying ‘yes’, came during yesterday’s Student Government meeting.
The additional $5 a semester will fund a stream-lined media operation that will share a Governing Board and other resources according to Ambrosia Neldon, news editor for The Herald.
She says the next step is to get the WMU Board of Trustees to ratify the results of the election and approve the fee.
Ironically, Neldon is graduating and has a job waiting so after she helps get the new organization together this summer, she will be gone.
Student voters also approved an $8 charge to provide transportation services for aviation students who have to shuttle between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. It passed with 61% support.
