KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- One big question that has come up time and time again in the debate over the proximity of the Allied Paper Landfill to residential housing is whether it’s made anyone sick?
While there have been a lot of anecdotal claims of grouped cases of Multiple Sclerosis and Cancers, Linda Vail, the Director of the Kalamazoo County Dept. of Health and Human Services says it would be news to them.
She says that doesn’t prove that it’s safe, and that the cases that have occurred in those areas might be due to PCB’s. It just shows that if it has had an impact it has been too subtle to recognize.
The primary danger that PCB's pose is to pregnant woman, or women of child bearing age, which is why they are advised not to eat the fish from the Kalamazoo River.
