KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- On Friday, about 100 of the smartest middle schoolers from around the state will be at Western Michigan University as the 2013 Michigan Geographic Bee is being held. WMU's Lisa DeChano-Cook says that the event's been there for about six years now, and shows off the campus to some of Michigan's best and brightest prospects.
She notes that the kids get asked questions that range from simple geography, to history, to current events, so they have to be pretty well rounded to get far.
The Geography Bee is Friday at 12:30 at the Fetzer Center, and anyone can go watch. The winner will be sent on to compete in the Nationals...and the winner of the Nationals will get receive a 25 thousand dollar scholarship, plus a trip to the Galapagos with Jeopardy -- and Geography Bee -- host Alex Trebek.
