Kalamazoo discovers sometimes government can do it cheaper

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo City Commissioners will be asked at their regular Monday night meeting to hire 3-civilians to become parking enforcement officers in the neighborhoods. Currently they contract with AMPCO, the company that manages downtown parking for the city, but an analysis says this is one case where outsourcing is actually costing them $200-thousand more than if they just did it themselves.

There is no mention in the City Commission Packet of a recent incident in which an AMPCO employee ticketed a pickup truck parked on Stuart St. on two successive nights, without noticing that there was a dead body in the vehicle.
