(DETROIT, MI)(1660 THE FAN) - it's a numbers game from here on out, and the Tigers are playing the right way...so far. Wednesday night took until the 8th inning, but as long as it happened...it's OK. Detroit edged Kansas City 5-4. Alex Avila and Austin Jackson both hit home runs in the game, but it was a Delmon Young single in the 8th that started the rally for the tie-breaking run, as Jhonny Peralta grounded into a fielder's choice that scored pinch runner Don Kelly with what ended up as the winning run. Al Alburquerque pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings at a crucial time in the game, Joaquin Benoit earned the win, and Jose Valverde got his 32nd save. The win puts the Tigers alone in 1st place in the AL Central, as Chicago lost again to Cleveland. The final game of the series is set for Thursday afternoon, with broadcast time on AM 590 WKZO set for 12:40 pm.
