DETROIT, MI (1660 THE FAN) - The Detroit Tigers sent their ace to the mound Monday, knowing at least two things...that they need to win the remaining games they play and not worry about what other teams are doing...and that Justin Verlander is a good way to start that effort. Verlander pitched another strong game, going eight innings, giving up two runs while striking out eight, as the Tigers won the first of four games with Kansas City, 6-2. Prince Fielder hit a home run, and Andy Dirks drove two runs, as Detroit took a lead early and never looked back. Jose Valverde even looked like his former self, as he pitched a perfect 9th inning to earn the save. Detroit remains one game out in the division, as the White Sox edged Cleveland 5-4. Broadcast time for Tuesday's game is 6:40 pm on 590 WKZO.
