LANSING (WKZO) -- The Benton Harbor Area Schools have received a lifeline from the state Treasury Department. Treasury spokesman Terry Stanton says the state has approved a two-million dollar emergency loan for the financially troubled district.
Overall, Benton Harbor has asked the state for six-million, with the other four million dollars contingent on the district proving it can make tough financial decisions. Teachers and administrators have agreed to a ten-percent pay cut for this school year as the district deals with over ten-million dollars worth of red ink.
