KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The City of Kalamazoo will receive a proposed ordinance on Monday that would decriminalize the possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Public safety says it would free up officers to pursue more serious police business and free up lab time. Violators would be issued a ticket, rather than arrested and booked for a misdemeanor.
If it’s a first offence and they successfully complete probation, it could be erased from police records...if approved. Commissioners will receive the proposal on Monday night and take a vote at the next regular meeting after that.
