BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- The federal government is fining Kellogg $500,000 for violating the Clean Air Act at manufacturing facilities in Grand Rapids and Battle Creek.
The company has also agreed to replace an air conditioning and dehumidifying system that uses the refrigerant R-22 with a chilled water system, which will cost around $435,000.
The government accuses Kellogg of operating flavor coating equipment in Battle Creek without the required permits and said the equipment resulted in increased emissions and smog in 1993 and 2002.
