Kalamazoo School Board appoints committee to examine possible bond issue

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- If you live in the Kalamazoo School District, there could be a bond proposal in your future...or not. Last night the school board authorized the formation of a 28-member bond committee to weigh the district’s needs against what voters may be willing to approve at the ballot box.

Supt. Michael Rice says it will have to clear many hurdles before it would become a reality, if that’s what they recommend.

The last bond paid for improvements to every school, and to build Prairie Ridge Elementary and Linden Grove Middle School. It will also fund the replacement of Woodward Writers Academy beginning this spring.

But five of their schools were built over 80 years ago.

The large committee will include 19 parents and community representatives and 9 staff members who will be charged with producing a recommendation in time for the May 5th Ballot next year.
