PORTER (WKZO) -- A car-tree crash last night in southwest Michigan took the lives of two young men. It happened around 9:15 p.m. in Cass County’s Porter Township.
19-year-old Ross Gambill from Osceola, Indiana told deputies that he and two of his friends were traveling east on Chapel Hill Street just east of Baldwin Prarie Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the tree.
A 19-year-old from Tennessee was the driver. A second passenger was identified as 20-year-old Kevin Shupert of Elkhart, Indiana. The driver and Shupert died at the scene of the accident.
Gambill was transported to South Bend Memorial for treatment of his injuries. Deputies said Gambill and Shupert were wearing seat belts while the driver wasn’t buckled in. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
