Hoekstra: Stabenow an 'ineffective and bad senator'

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- In two weeks, voters will decide between incumbent Senator Debbie Stabenow and former west Michigan congressman Pete Hoekstra.

Hoekstra tells WKZO his experience helping to balance budgets during his time the U.S. House is a skill needed now.

"We passed a budget each and every year," Hoekstra said. "The end result is we had strong economic growth, strong job creation."

He called Stabenow an "ineffective and bad senator," saying tax breaks given to battery company LG Chem in Holland were a bad idea.

"[They] announced they're putting their workers on rolling furloughs because they have no demand for their product - and they received, roughly $130 million," Hoekstra said.

Hoekstra pointed to a broadcast report that workers at LG Chem are not even working when they are on the job, because demand for lithium-ion batteries - like those in the Chevrolet Volt - are not enough in demand.
